EII in Action: Real-world success stories

As leaders – whether at work, in our families, or our social circles – we have a choice. 

We can be the person who tries to hoard all the spotlight by trying to talk over others or we can be the person who lifts everyone up and accomplishes our goals and objectives in fun, at home, or work setting! Guess which person makes things better and creates the greatest benefit for everyone?

When we Encourage, Inspire, and Include (EII) others, we are the ones who are remembered with positive comments and do not worry about those who may be talking behind our backs. EII leaders are the ones who receive awards and hold valued positions within the best companies.

If we are embarrassed and threatened when we see other people shining, that is a 'me' problem, not an 'everyone else' problem. 

When we see others continually forcing their opinions, even though they have little or no value, we must realize that they are not true leaders. They are secretly asking us to help them with Encouragement for their desire to lead, Inspiration for them to understand that there must be true value in their comments or opinions, and Inclusion that there are better ways to share strategic ideas and avoid negativity.

The best leaders realize they grow by making everyone feel Encouraged, Inspired and Included and that it is not a weakness. It is how you actually “get the job done” and benefit everyone involved, personally and professionally.

Think about it this way:

  • In the Family: 
    • Are kids struggling with homework? We cannot just give them the answer. We must ask questions, share stories and make it a team effort. We are not just helping them with school; we are building their confidence. Even if we do not know the answer, asking questions can help them think through their problems.
  • At work or in the office: 
    • Deadline stress or decision fatigue? Instead of barking orders, give recognition to what people are doing right. Ask questions. Brainstorm together and make sure everyone feels heard. When everyone feels valued, you have a team that is motivated, not stressed.
  • Hanging Out Socially: 
    • When a new person joins the group, do not let them feel like an unwanted outsider. Thank them for joining, share your own stories, ask about theirs and make them feel like they belong. Strong communities are built on inclusion.
  • Community activities: 
    • When the local community faces issues, involve everyone in the solution. Do not be afraid to listen to all sides and find the common ground that unites people. When someone shares an opinion, appreciate it but also feel free to ask where they learned this information. If the answer is not solid, they may want to lead the research to justify their point when requested, providing positive support.

EII is not rocket science. It is simply basic human interaction. When you Encourage, Inspire and Include people, good things happen. And, honestly, it makes you feel surprisingly good, too. 

Ditch the insecurity and start lifting people up. You'll be amazed at what happens."

If we turn the ideas of Encouragement, Inspiration and Inclusion into everyday habits, it will help us unlock the full potential of everyone's unique experiences and perspectives. By embracing the challenges that come with having multiple identities, we can tap into a wealth of diverse intelligence. This way, everyone gets a fair chance at success without being judged by their appearance or differences.

Let us make it a point to encourage each other, spark innovative ideas and include everyone in the conversation. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels valued, heard, and ready to shine.
